Long Live the Rhubarb
Today we had a garden meeting before school started and a general meeting after school ended. The photo above, I took this morning at the end of the garden meeting. Notice the greenhouse in the background without a base. You are also probably wondering why there is a rectangle of rocks in front of Matt, Karen, Kate, Zeel, Nicole and Annie. June of 2015 we received a donation from a very nice lady who gave us her personal rhubarb plant. She told us that it was 17 years old and wanted us to continue its life. During the winter months the rhubarb's stems and leaves are smaller than in the other parts of the year. It lived through this June, as we celebrated its 18 birthday. Recently I noticed that I wasn't really seeing the rhubarb at all, as last year I saw the small stems and leaves. So today when I inspected the area where the rhubarb used to be I realized that the rhubarb was completely gone. The others agreed, we couldn't find it at all. So we gathered rocks and made a rectangle around where the rhubarb used to be. Then we held a funeral ceremony for it and we took super cute photos looking up to the sky with our hands folded, but I didn't want to get in trouble or something for posting such a funny photo so I decided to post the basic smile at the camera photo. If anyone who attended the funeral ceremony today would like a copy of the funny photo I will send it to you. The rhubarb has died and we can only assume that the lawnmower got it. But we have hope, after all the season of Michael Jackson Thriller is upon as, and perhaps now that the area where the rhubarb is protected with rocks, that the rhubarb will come back and then we can have a zombie rhubarb.
Anyways now to discuss our general meeting after school. We had the club fair yesterday and many students who signed up showed up at the meeting today. We were very excited to have a full room of new members. Today's meeting was I believe much less overwhelming and also more relaxed and organized than the last meeting. We went over only the most important information and then worked on the mental health display case, which of course I forgot to look at and take a photo of before I left school today. The members got to write, draw and create whatever made them happy or connected to mental health. It was super fun to get to do arts and crafts with the members, all members who completed something for the display case received an extra point. Hazel, Rima and Katie all went down to the display case (which is outside of room 163) and started to add some statistics and quotes in. Tomorrow morning we are going to try to finish the display case if possible. We have a lot to fill the display case with and it will probably take longer than we expect. Anyone is welcome to come early to help put together the display case tomorrow. And also here are Amy's meeting notes from today.
