HOPE Meeting 11/2 in a Shoebox
Hi all! Today we held a general meeting. We also had a can shake on Saturday with some of our members at Hibernia Diner! Okay so back to today's meeting now.
We had some of the officers from Lindsey Meyer Teen Institute (LMTI) come in and present about TI. Marek the president of TI and Rachel the secretary of TI explained to us about the importance of TI in the community. TI is for high schoolers grades 9-12 from Rockaway Township, Rockaway Boro, Wharton and Denville. TI is LGBT friendly and accepting of all people, just like HOPE Club. TI is a leadership group that holds social events and participates in community service. They are against drugs and alcohol and therefore create events as a solution of how to have fun without drugs and alcohol. Join TI at the Rockaway Senior Center the second Thursday of each month and the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:30 PM. Make friends and become even more involved in our local communities. The PowerPoint from today's presentation and official LMTI website link will be attached to our website very soon.
Then we wrote letters to the Veterans who will be coming to Morris Hills on November 15. We created a word bank of good words to include in the letter. It's important that the letter is detailed and personalized. If you did not write one and would like to or already wrote one and would like to write another one please stop in room 216 to see MP for special stationary to write on.
At the end of the meeting we played a game! Everyone got a plastic shoebox (we will use these for OHC) and had to fill their box with as much stuff as possible. The "stuff" was everyday items that were important to get through the school day. Counting every pencil and sheet of paper some of our highest numbers were from Brennan with 103 items and Xavi with 111 items. Fernando also had a lot of items but I don't have record of his total. We did this activity to visually explain that the children who will receive our OHC boxes will only get what fits in the box. It was harder to fit a lot of large items that are important, such as t-shirts in the box. It was easier to fit many small items. The photo above shows our members trying to fit their belongings in their boxes. Please donate any items for OHC and come to our meeting next Wednesday when we will wrap and pack the boxes so they can be shipped off!
Okay well I'm going to pop the sheet of bubble wrap I just found and I will see you all next Wednesday!
