Dear Future Gardener.....
About a week ago, an interesting incident occurred with the germinating seeds (or young "sproutlings"). Normally when labeling seeds, it is best to write the name on a piece of tape and mark its location in order to tell the plants apart. However, this year, we got a little lazy and decided to just use the seed packets to mark where the seeds will be.
So far it's been all fine and dainty. As you can see (if you look closely), the plants are easily marked by three plastic small bags and one bigger brown bag, which still contains extra cantaloupe seeds.
One morning when Annie was watering the tiny plants, she noticed something growing out the side near the cantaloupes, seemingly through the containers, rather than right on top. Curious, we lifted the side and discovered this:
Wait........what?
For those who are confused, this is a mass of maybe 20ish seeds that SPROUTED.
Apparently the only thing seeds really need to start germinating is water (The seed itself is filled with nutrients that can sustain the plant temporarily). Oops.
