A Harvest In The Drizzle!

There is nothing more relaxing then a good old afternoon harvest with a drizzle of rain to be the cherry on top! With the fear of frost creeping up, it seemed urgent to get as much as we could saved from the wrath of the winter season. Among those "saved" were tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, and scallions!

I think the MVP of our vegetables has really been the scallions, or as I like to call them the "zombie plant". You may think you harvested them once, but they always come back for more, growing back within a week! They even fought off last winter and lived to see another harvest. We're so proud!

Some of the tomatoes seemed like they could use a week before being picked. Usually we avoid harvesting them if they are firm or too bright in color. However, with the worry of frost, we had to make some tough decisions and harvested all of them that looked "good enough" (so an orange-ish color was fine, but not one that was all green). They then to ripe by the windowsill.

I remember when I first starting harvesting, I freaked out because some of the peppers seemed to mostly black with some red. But don't worry; those black streaks are kind of like the midway between it going from green to red. So it actually a good sign to see those black streaks: only a few weeks until harvesting time!

Harvests are getting smaller and smaller; let's see what we get next week!
