Growing the Greenhouse
When Ajay and his team first put up the green house, Annie and I knew then that there was so much potential in those beautiful 13300 square inches. The possibilities are endless! But before we get excited, we have to make sure that our green house has all that it needs to be the best asset it can for achieving our gardening goals.
We have a grant that we can use for green house facilities, which will help us order the supplies that we need. One item that is on the list is a Galvanized 2-Level Shelving System. Why would we need that crazy named thing? Well, we need a good organization system in the green house to manage all of the plants that we hope to put inside there. That's where shelving is essential. You can see a picture of the system we want below.
But we needed to make one big trip before adding to our ordering spreadsheet, going down to the depths of Morris Hills: THE BASEMENT😨. It seems appropriate to have gone down there just a few days before Halloween, getting ready for the spookiness that is to come. But the basement is also the home to our gardening supplies, so we needed to take account of all of the materials that we already have to avoid ordering anything unnecessary. It was great to see all the supplies that we had from years before, all tucked away and ready for the upcoming seasons. I got to go through a lot of the supplies with Annie, talk about what they were, how they work, why we need them, if they were in good condition and if we could use more to introduce more plants to the garden.
The garden grant (thanks to everyone who helped get the word out) helped us stock up on the supplies we are going to be needing for the upcoming seasons, offering our garden some new seeds and seed trays, a new hose, and labels. This means that we don't need to worry too much about ordering new items, so the only things we have on the list so far is the shelving system for organization and an automatic vent opener for ventilation.
So keep your eye out for the green house this year; I think it's going to be the star of this gardening year. Happy November!
