A Gardener's Toolbox: Links and Resources
Just like gardeners needs tools to grow the plants in the garden, we have online tools that guide us through the year and serve as a point of reference when we are doubtful about something. We included in this post some resources that have helped us navigate ourselves through our gardening journey.
1: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/
This website is a literal garden of knowledge that answers just about every question I have thought about as a gardener. It is great for someone who is still getting their feet wet planting, offering basic "how-to" guides while going through some of the early problems that you will face, such as dealing with our #1 archenemy: weeds. The link is very reliable and I definitely recommend it for learning general gardening knowledge
2: https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/search/?q=gardening
Good House Keeping isn't gardening based, but I found it useful when I was researching new plants to introduce to the garden. Their articles on gardening are great for plant-specific info. For instance, their article that I read on asparagus helped me better visualize how we could grow it in the MH Garden and what challenges we would face along the way. Because of their very clear, easy to understand language as well as its detailed information for certain plants that you are interested in, I think it would suit gardeners of all levels and would definitely recommend it.
3: Adel
Adel is a close friend of my family who is avid gardener. I remember last year when I used to walk from Morris Hills after school, I would always pass by his house and typically would see him gardening outside. He would show me around his garden and encourage me to garden myself, telling me the value that such an experience has on your growth as a person, not to mention the great feeling he always got when he gave the fresh fruits and vegetables away to neighbors and friends after harvests. I still remember the watermelon he offered us from his garden tasting better than anything I have ever tried from a store! He taught me about the time that he plants, a few techniques that he uses, and helped me gain new ideas to incorporate in the MH garden. Having so many years of experience, I see him as a new perspective when I encounter difficulties gardening.
4: Annie
I saved the best for last! Annie is usually the first person that I go to when I am unsure or curious of just about anything in the garden. She's the Dumbledore of the garden, offering me a lot of help and advice based on experience of what she remembers went well, or did not go so well from past years.
Bottom line: To succeed in something new, you need reliable places to keep yourself on the right track. These resources have helped us overcome the unique challenges we faced caring for the lives of our wonderful plants.
Thanks for reading and enjoy the long weekend!
