So... it's been a while
The last post was July 7 so it's about two weeks later and about a week late for an update. Sorry! Despite the lack of posts, visits to the garden are just as frequent as ever. A lot has happened in the meantime.
Remember in the previous post when Nicole mentioned the explosion of leaves the pink jumbo banana squash became. Well this is it now. Pretty impressive huh (o.o).
The flowers in the right picture turns into the squash as seen in the left picture. Its doesn't appear very pink but suits the description of banana quite clearly. The gradual color change should be interesting. Not to mention that although its barely the length of my finger now, there's a reason they are called pink JUMBO banana squash.
Overall, the peppers are growing satisfactorily. As the lone pepper picture can attest, they are at least the size of my fist and green. According to one source, green peppers are ripe. However, they will be sweeter if they turn yellow/red/orange.
One of the varieties of tomato plants actually have tomatoes! The other variety is still flowers though. The majority of them are still green but some are orangish red. Once they are fully red, we'll be able to start harvesting!
The few remaining lettuce survivors have sprouted quite nicely. As you can see, one of the lettuce plants has begun bolting which means its getting ready to flower. This also means that we should harvest its leaves as soon as possible since when lettuce bolts, its leaves start to become bitter. After harvesting all the leaves, the plant ought to be removed entirely.
The peas are not reacting well to the heat. As a lesson to future gardeners, plant pea plants EARLY, they are apparently cold season plants. Whoops.
The carrot is just as sprightly as ever and the cantaloupes are blooming (though there are no flowers yet). The okra is just as strange as ever. The watermelon vines (?) are stretching while the pepper plants near them appear to only have changed in size. No flowers have sprouted. The zucchini have become very leafy and flowers have emerged for them.
See ya!
