Winter is Coming

Another week, another harvest, and another post by yours truly (:P) about our glorious garden. Thank you to everyone that helped spread the word about the garden grant! It got funded and we now are in the possession of some fancy labels, new seeds, a new hose, and more seed trays. I really like the new hose because it has its own bad and it sort of resembles a bungee cord. That only implies good things for its durability and quality! There are some concerns in the back of my mind about its length, but I also haven't fully unwrapped it at all so I am probably just being overly paranoid. We are probably going to start moving certain gardening tools from outside to the basement in the near future so keep an eye on your email!

Anyway, onto what you are all here for: the harvest!

I'm quite honestly in awe of these scallions. They were planted last year and we never bothered to fully pull them out when we were cleaning up the garden. Zoom to this year when we realized, yes, those are the scallions from last year. A cool thing about them is how they just keep on growing back after they are harvested. Another thing is how you could put the roots of a scallion plant in a glass full of water and it will grow. I couldn't count the number of times I wanted a nice cup of water or milk at home, only to find out that there was an onion plant growing inside of it. Very good for seasoning dishes and not so good for my parched throat.

In reference to our lovely title, it is very evident within the garden that winter is approaching. The previous post had already discussed our dwindling variety of harvest and now it is increasingly clear from the more-cold-weather plants that the plants are already feeling the effects.

Have a wonderful week and an early Happy Halloween!
